The tech gadgets I can afford

High tech Doorbell?

I recently purchased and received a Remo Door bell / webcam.  I purchased it for 2 basic reasons – it was near father’s day and it was on sale for 1/2 price.  When I received the doorbell, after I had forgotten about even ordering it, I unpacked it and everything was there, kind of …

What is included:

  • The remo doorbell/webcam
  • a mounting plate
  • Instructions (basic) for setting it up
  • Screws (4 with sinkers to screw it into the wall/door, and 2 smaller ones without sinkers for the battery cover and the security screw hole).
  • It also came with 6 AA rechargeable batteries, without a recharger!  Luckily it also said that you could use rgular AA batteries.

I decided to put the doorbell in the middle of my front door.  This afforded the best view of anyone ringing the bell.  It was fairly easy to put up the mounting plate with the supplied screws (I didn’t need the sinkers since this was in a hard wood door). Once I put the doorbell up and inserted and screwed in the security screw (by far the hardest part), it was easy to set up.  Now I can see anyone who comes to my door and rings the doorbell, but they have to ring the bell.

The video that comes from this $70 onsale doorbell is kind of choppy and generally not that good.  I get far better video from the $20.00 WyzeCam’s I have put up around my house.  I still like it though.  Then my wife saw an advertisement on TV for Ring, another, more expensive video doorbell that can remotely sound a siren as well.  I told her I didn’t think that the Remo plus could do that.
