The tech gadgets I can afford

BlueTooth – My journey

I started off with a simple desire, an easy way to answer my phone and getting one of the BlueTooth devices which I really liked.  Just the idea of wireless communication between my device and anything else makes me think of Star Trek.  I started out, because it really wasn’t “necessary,” finding a lost bluetooth earpiece on the street,  This wasn’t the kind that went into your ear canal, but rather over one’s ear.  None the less I got it home and cleaned it thoroughly.  I had to buy a new behind the ear earpiece, because that was there, but broken.  I looked for, and couldn’t find a decent picture of it, but no loss.  Eventually I discovered why someone had lost this particular BT earpiece, the behind ear pieces break REALLY easily.  Anyway I gave up on it.  My wife had, but had stopped using this nice Motorola one.  If you flip it open it turns on.  The Behind ear part is made of rubber and is comfortable.  I was using this for a while.  My wife didn’t want it back, but she wanted me to use something that would be better for my health.  So I bought a BT series 4 earpiece.   It was a Jawbone Icon (pictured on the right).  I then decided I should protect my purchase so first I bought what I thought was a pretty cool hardcase with a belt hook.  The only problem was that the belt case was TOO easy to open.  It opened so often that I stopped carrying my Jawbone in it and started carrying something I thought was not as precious, a USB stick with nearly 128gb worth of software.  Then one day it happened.  It opened and the USB fell out and I realized that it had too much stuff on it to loose (I did have a back up, but I was glad when someone found it!)  Next I bought a soft case, that would go in my pocket.  It seemed like a more reasonable way to carry such a device and it was on sale!  It didn’t really work out.  I use the softcase now for several USBs and adapters.  So was there anything next – of Course!  I really liked those  on neck earpieces.  You know the ones.  I first saw one when I went into a wireless store.  The person working there had on a pair with retractable earpods.  This was pretty neat.  So I started looking around and saw others had similar neck headphones.  Not only could you listen to music with them, but many let you make and receive calls.  So I starting looking for something on sale.  I found these really neat folding ones, which made them even cooler if not more likely to break.  I bought them and used them for about 8 months before 1 side went out completely. There was no fixing them.  They weren’t even worth shipping back, they had been inexpensive AND expensive.  I decided to get something a little better next time.  I liked the ones that I saw others wearing which seemed to curve down the front of the neck/shoulders.  While I was doing research, I started making a list on Amazon, this was both good and bad.  Because

of that list, I ended up getting an advertisement in my email which directed me to this item on Amazon.  I maybe rashly bought it.  It met all the things I wanted except that curve down feature – like the one on the right.

I forgot to say, my current bluetooth earpiece is the one in the feature image and below.  I was getting a ride from a friend, and was telling him about how I had problems finding just the right BT earpiece.

He had one on I didn’t particularly like, and I told him I didn’t like it because it had a piece like an earbud.  He immediately said that his wife had something I might like.  She pulled out the one I ordered the next day and am still using.

UPDATE 201804: The Jabra pictured above accidentally went through the wash, so it no longer works.  I am now back to using the neck item pictured above on the left.
